On September 16, 2009, Big Creek Pet Hospital hosted a Senior Pet Wellness Seminar to educate owners of senior pets about their special needs and to introduce an affordable way to ensure their pets receive “best care” to help their pets enjoy a longer, healthier and happier life. Several trusted veterinary medicine and pet food companies were represented to share information with the audience. BCPH staff also presented information about common issues that our senior 4-legged friends face. Those in attendance received an informative notebook to help them understand more about the health of their senior pets. There were prizes and gifts, as well as refreshments.

It is common knowledge that pets age more rapidly than humans. In fact, dogs generally enter their senior years at age 7, though it varies with breed and size. Cats are considered to be seniors at 10 years of age.

As pets age they can be affected by many of the same kinds of conditions that affect humans: diabetes, arthritis, thyroid issues, heart issues, kidney issues, adrenal gland issues and changes in behavior, to name some. It is important to the health of older pets to have more frequent veterinary examinations and to be screened for potential problems.

To help pet owners to receive the special veterinary care their senior pets need, BCPH has made available a plan to manage senior wellness examinations and recommended screening tests and spread payments out over one year. These Senior Wellness Packages are a great value, and offer peace of mind for owners who can know they are taking the best care of these beloved members of their families.

Big Creek Pet Hospital hosted Animal Idol once again on June 28th with more than 25 terrific contestants! Everyone in attendance had a wonderful time and the event helped to support a great cause. Over $1000 was raised for W.A.G.S. 4 Kids, a special organization that we are proud to support. Wendy Nelson, director of Working Animals Giving Service, Inc., together with her capable staff, raises and trains service dogs which are given free of charge to area children with special needs. To learn more about W.A.G.S. 4 Kids, visit their website: www.wags4kids.org

It was rainy on contest day, but the sun began to shine just in time for our talent show! Chuck Collier, WGAR-FM radio personality, served as our Celebrity Emcee and he did a great job making sure things flowed smoothly. Following the talent show, Wendy’s “W.A.G.S.” dogs demonstrated their. Then, each contestant was called up on stage to receive their prizes and strut their stuff one last time!

We thank all our sponsors and volunteers for their contributions to our cause, as well as everyone who participated, as an owner of a pet contestant, or as a spectator. And very special “THANK YOU” to those who voted for their favorite contestants with their donations. All helped us raise money for this deserving organization. We appreciate you!

On Januray 21, 2009 Big Creek Pet Hospital hosted it's first ever Dental Month launch party!! The party was a big success! We had an island theme and a lot of fun. Every client who attended recieved a goodie bag and some lucky clients took home a door prize!! Everyone who participated was also enetered into a drawing for a tropical cruise! The party was a chance to learn all about dental procedures here at Big Creek Pet Hospital. The staff had different learning stations set up that walked you through how your pet's professional dental cleaning is done. The last station gave our clients a chance to have their questions answered by Dr. Fegan. It was also an opportunity to schedule a dental cleaning and many of those who attended did just that. It was a great time and we llok forward to doing it again next year!!

Dental month runs January 12 - March 13 2009. When you schedule a dental cleaning during this time you will be entered into a drawing for a cruise. So join the party and call today to schedule your pet for a professional dental cleaning!! Also, check back on this site to learn more about a learning opportunity about heartworm and fleas!
