June 11, 2013

Day 5: Blackberries are an invasive species in Galapagos and cover most of the forests there, so to do our part we spent the day eradicating blackberries and cleaning up the forests. Blackberry bushes in Galapagos do not grow berries, but instead the vines grow thicker and farther in order to soak up more sunlight and water to wipe out any other types of plants growing in these forests. Our group of 16 people managed to remove over 4,000 Blackberry bushes in the short time we were there.
